Feeling down is normal. People go through ups and downs in their lives. It is simply part of human nature to wrestle with emotions. The hardest part of it all, though, is trying to pull out of the darkness. Low self-esteem is a place in which people feel they aren’t valuable or helpful, stuck in seeing the negatives too much. If you’re suffering from this condition, you may want to try one or more of the following five things.

1. Increase Exercise

Physical exertion does have an impact on mental health. Many studies indicate that at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise could benefit your overall mentality, increasing endorphins, releasing stress and improving sleep. Try to make time at least three to four days a week to get moving. Go for a walk, take a bike ride or pop on a video class.

2. Splurge on Yourself

“Me time” is valuable in lifting mood and helping you feel good about yourself. Take some time each day to do something for yourself. This might mean reading a book or watching a favorite show. In addition, make one day a month a “you day.” Use that time to get something on your checklist accomplished. Set up an appointment at the salon. 3. Focus on Positive Thinking

It’s pretty easy to slip into a negative mindset, allowing the hardships to wear you down. Thinking about the good or looking to the future could bring you out of the dumps. Pick up a thankful journal. Each day, reflect on the things that went right, expressing gratitude in even the smallest little thing. Push the bad away, and focus on what is working.

4. Spend Time With Friends

Sitting alone is peaceful, but too much isolation means an opportunity to dwell on missed opportunities. Make memories with those you like. Plan social gatherings with friends and family. These people should be the ones that make you feel better. That little bit of cheer could be enough to diminish sadness.

5. Find Your Strength

Be you. Following some else’s dream is problematic in so many ways. First of all, it neglects your interests. Second of all, it may be an uphill battle to accomplish. Use your talents, appreciating the best of you. Search for careers that allow you to move forward and use your assets well. Spend time in a hobby that is your passion.

Your mentality drives your motivation and cheer. Invest in it by thinking about your daily actions and thoughts.
