The odor and physical appearance of your vagina can tell you about its health. The vagina is a vital organ with a complex anatomy, which makes monitoring its health even more important. It is important to seek medical attention from the best Gynecologist in Islamabad, whenever you notice an unusual change in your vagina.

Consultations with your gynecologist will help in the maintenance of your reproductive organs and vaginal health. Moreover, don’t hesitate before visiting a gynecologist. They are experts in women’s health and would be able to and manage your concerns.

Nevertheless, keeping the vagina healthy does not require much effort. A change in your lifestyle and a few simple healthy habits can enable you to manage common vaginal conditions. Some conditions of the vagina are not preventable and affect it regardless of how you take care of it.

Vaginal Conditions

Some microorganisms are naturally present in the vagina. Even a slight change in the microbial load can cause infection and discomfort in the vagina. One of the most common conditions affecting more than 75% of the women is yeast infection.

Some of the causes of vaginal infections include the following

  • A weakened immune system
  • Douches and vaginal sprays
  • Hormonal contraceptives
  • Tight underwear or clothing around the vagina
  • Other changes, for example, changes in hormonal levels during breastfeeding, pregnancy, and hormonal replacement therapy (HRT)
  • Diabetes

Bacterial vaginosis is a common condition of the vagina due to imbalance in the vaginal bacteria. Most women experience this due to overgrowth of microorganisms in the vagina. This eventually overwhelms the healthy microorganisms, for example, lactobacillus, which is found in the digestive system, genitals, and urinary tract. Moreover, most women with bacterial vaginosis are unaware about it because it usually shows no symptoms.

You can visit the best gynecologist in Lahore and manage common conditions of the vagina. However, these conditions cannot be prevented.

The following steps can help you in improving your vaginal health.

The Vagina Takes Care of Itself

A lot of women are anal about their vagina being clean. They use fragrances or clean the vagina with scented substances, which is unhealthy to do because the vagina cleans itself and there is no need to use any of the scented soaps and perfumes.

Lubricants

Using lubricants during intercourse has several benefits. It helps in easing vaginal dryness. Dryness can be due to several reasons, for example, genetics, antidepressant medications, and hormonal birth control medications. The vagina naturally lubricates. However, if that does not happen, use a lubricant.

However, avoid using lubricants with glycerin, which is present in most water-based lubricants. It is food for certain microbes and an increased production can cause BV or yeast infection.

Protect you Vagina

Protection during sex can prevent you from contracting STIs. Although, be mindful and avoid using condoms with spermicides. They may kill the sperm but could inflame or irritate the vagina.

Antibiotics

Sometimes taking too many antibiotics can harm your vagina instead of benefiting it. Antibiotics are suitable in treating other illnesses but rarely good for the vagina. If you have a vaginal infection from taking antibiotics, visit your gynecologist. It can be treated easily.

Visit your Gynecologist

Visit your gynecologist and talk to them about your sexual health and other needs, for example pregnancy and STI testing. They should be your first contact regarding problems of the vagina and reproductive health.
