We’re currently in an age where technology is more advanced and popular than ever. Without even noticing, we’ll spend large amounts of the day scrolling through social media, browsing the internet or playing with online games and gadgets. Although there is no denying that technology has enhanced how we live our daily lives and communicate with friends and family, it does have its downsides.

Over the past decade the amount of people using not only one, but numerous social media platforms has increased rapidly. From sharing snapshots of our lives on Instagram to following updates of celebrities and A-listers on Twitter; for many people social media is now an addiction more than a pleasure.

The negative effects of social media can cause harm to both physical and mental health, especially when it comes to men. The damage caused to men due to social media isn’t often talked about and Chemist Click wanted to change this. To enable you to take back control of your social media platforms and use them to benefit your life instead of potentially causing harm, they have shared some important information which may be relevant to you.

Don’t believe everything you see on social media

Using Instagram as an example, the platform allows you to share photos from your daily life, travel adventures and tasty cuisine you may be enjoying. Constantly seeing snapshots like these on your timeline will often make you believe that the people you’re following are living much more extravagant lives than yourself, leaving you feeling deflated and wanting that lifestyle.

It’s important to remember that the majority of people only share the good parts of their life on social media and not the bad. It’s more than likely they’ll feel the same way when looking at photographs on their timeline and facing their own battles. Sadly, over the years social media has become quite competitive and it’s important not to get caught up in this.

Only follow people who add value to your life

Following on from the last point, having a timeline which is filled with images and stories from the people you’re following may leave you doubting yourself. Instead, it’s important to focus on your interests and people who will add value to your life and reflect this through your social media channels.

For example, if you’re into cooking then following people who share tips and recipes that will motivate you to get in the kitchen and test your culinary skills. If you like keeping fit and healthy, then search for fitness coaches and personal trainers who share workouts and nutritional tips. It may sound obvious but focusing on people who provide you with positive feelings will go a long way to making you feel motivated and better within yourself.

As the negative effects of social media on men in particular aren’t often spoken about, it can leave some people questioning if it’s just them, when in fact large numbers of the male population are troubled by what they see on social media.

By following some of the points Chemist Click have outlined, you should find that using social media starts to become more positive and you don’t find yourself with low self-esteem due to the never-ending list of desirable photos and updates you’re seeing on your timeline.
