Going to the dentist twice a year seems like an eternity of pain to many people. In fact, they fear the dentist so much that they are even willing to reschedule their appointments in order to keep from having to have their teeth inspected. Delaying dental visits can be hazardous to your health. Here are several reasons why you should keep your six-month appointments with your Gainesville dentist.

Skipping your next dental visit can actually be hazardous to your health. Issues that you aren’t able to notice on your own can get worse and worse. Catching dental issues is a must, and only a dentist can detect certain issues before they become a major problem. It is important for you to keep your regular cleaning and checkup appointments. Here are several reasons why it is important for you to see your dentist on a regular basis.

  • Regular dental visits can help with cancer detection. Oral cancer is very dangerous. It can show up in just about any person. If it is not found early enough, the consequences can be devastating. Early detection is treatable. Your dentist is trained to spot the signs of oral cancer. The dentist is also trained to perform cancer exams for the mouth. It is a pain-free procedure that is fairly quick to have done. There is no reason to worry about it unless you skip those exams.
  • Regular visits will help keep plaque buildup to a minimum. There are areas of the mouth that just cannot be reached using good brushing techniques. You will need to have the dentist get to those areas. If they are left to themselves, the plaque can build up and cause all sorts of damage and pain.
  • Early detection of gum disease can help you keep your teeth longer. This disease is a result of plaque buildup around the teeth and gums. Gingivitis is just the first stage of the disease. It breakdown the tissues that attack the teeth to the gums. And once that happens all sorts of nasty things can get into the underside of the tooth.
  • Your dental staff will also help you keep up on the latest dental cleaning techniques and technology. They are there to help you by reminding of you good brushing techniques. They can also give you a clear picture of the effects of bad habits that affect the health of your mouth.
  • The dentist will also perform x-rays of your mouth to make sure that everything under the skin is in order. An x-ray will expose any abnormality that cannot be seen with the naked eye. You may have another tooth that is impacting its way to the surface that can only be seen using an x-ray machine.

There are a lot of reasons why you need to visit your dentist on a regular basis. If you have any questions are just needed to get that first checkup out of the way, contact your dentist and they’ll answer all of your questions. There is no reason to fear the pain any longer. There are new methods that can be used to give you the best experience of your life while you sit in the big chair.
